This International Nurses Day, we’re not just celebrating our nursing team — we’re spotlighting why having direct access to skilled nurses is essential for the future of aged care in Australia.

Under the new Support at Home program, clinical care is being recognised as a foundational element of in-home support. But here's the catch: accessing government-funded nursing isn’t always immediate.

Case Study: Meet Joan

Joan is 82 and lives independently at home. After a short hospital stay for a wound infection, her GP recommended daily in-home wound care for 10 days. Joan is eligible for Support at Home funding, but her services hadn’t been activated yet — she was stuck in limbo.

Her options? Wait… or pay privately.

Joan’s daughter reached out to Right at Home. We didn’t need to wait for the government Support at Home re-assessment for nursing, we offered Joan access to Right at Home's private nursing care services. Our nurse visited the next morning and provided the wound care Joan needed — safely and confidently at home.

Thanks to our ability to offer private-pay nursing services alongside government-funded care, Joan didn’t fall through the cracks. Her recovery continued smoothly, and once her nursing services funding was approved, her nursing services transitioned without interruption from privately funded to Support at Home funded.

Why It Matters

Not all providers have in-house nurses. Some rely entirely on external third parties or simply can’t offer clinical services. Right at Home is different:
