My introduction to the home care industry happened whilst I was studying for my dual Master's degree when I was offered a role to be a part-time carer. In the beginning, I wasn’t sure if this is something I would like to do but few shifts into my job I started enjoying what I was doing and it helped me rediscover myself as a person who likes to give and take care of people. My satisfaction was to see my client’s happiness and what they were able to achieve in their daily life with my support as a carer. By the time I finished my studies I had grown an affinity towards the care industry and was sure that I would return to the care industry once ready.

With more than 20 years of experience in various leadership roles within the technology space, I have seen a lot of professionals and personally known seniors who have retired from the industry and entered their next phase of ‘golden time’. However, it doesn’t always end up being a real ‘golden phase’ for most of them. Over a lifetime people work hard and age gracefully with wisdom only then to realise the challenges and avoid in the latter part of their life when they are unable to look after themselves or their loved ones are unable to look after them since they have their own lives to work out. The meaning of life does become questionable at one point.

Family members do sometimes take a tough decision of moving their single or both parents to a Nursing home where they end up losing their home and moving to a new environment at that age. In most cases, the change does not go down well in some cases leading to depression. There are both sides to a coin similarly we have good and bad nursing homes.

At a point, I realised "Who would not like to be in their own space and take care of themselves with some assistance".

The time was perfect for me to give back to the community of elders and anyone who needs that special in-home care assistance.
