Meet Niesa: A Day in the Life of a Right at Home Franchise Owner

| Franchise Business

Meet Niesa — franchise owner, caregiver, country girl, and super-mum of four under seven. She’s the kind of woman who can juggle a school run, a clinical meeting, and a client check-in call before lunchtime… all while humming to a good country song.

But behind the scenes of this seemingly superhuman schedule is a deep love for community and a heart for care. This is what a day in her life looks like.

6:00am – Quiet Start

“My day starts early. It’s the only peaceful moment before the chaos. I get ready for the day and take a few minutes to breathe, plan, and mentally prepare.”

7:00am – Mum Mode

Four little ones wake up, and it’s all hands on deck — breakfast, clothes, teeth brushing, school bags packed, missing socks found. It’s noisy, joyful, sometimes a little wild — but always full of love.

8:30am – Drop-Off Time

By this time, everyone’s safely at daycare or school. “One of the best parts of running my own local home care business is being able to start later some mornings so I can be there for things like award ceremonies.”

9:00am – Into the Office

Niesa arrives at her Right at Home office and heads straight for the coffee machine — a non-negotiable start to the day.

“Once I’ve got my coffee in hand, I make my way around the office to check in with the team. People are everything in this job, and I always ask, ‘What do you need from me today?’ Some days that means helping with a complex care situation. Other days, it’s simply about being present and listening.”

She makes time for personal calls to clients or their families — especially those facing difficult moments like illness or grief.
“It’s important they know they’re not alone. Even a quick call to say ‘We’re thinking of you’ can mean the world.”

10:00am – Client & Team Focus

No two days are the same. On any given morning Niesa might be:
  • Interviewing new caregivers
  • Meeting with potential clients in person
  • Sitting down for a clinical meeting with her team
  • Supporting staff through challenges or celebrating their wins

12:30pm – Lunch with the Team

Lunch is often a team activity — “Sometimes it’s leftovers from home, or we all chip in for a group order. We talk, share stories, laugh. It’s like a family.”

1:00pm – Roster & Afternoon Tasks

After lunch, Niesa turns her attention to the rest of the day’s work. She checks who’s rostered on, reviews any shifts that need attention, and ensures the night shift is fully supported.

5:00pm – Evening Chaos (and Love)

The work hat comes off, and the mum hat goes on. Niesa picks up the kids from school and dives into the evening routine — snacks, stories, squabbles, and snuggles.

“I do what every parent does — homework help, dinner battles, bedtime hugs. But my phone is always nearby. I’m on call for after-hours support, so if a client needs something, I’m ready.”

On Call, Always Caring

“I take the after-hours phone calls myself. Whether it’s a last-minute change, a hospital discharge, or someone just needing reassurance — I’m there.”

Why It’s Worth It

Niesa has worked in veteran advocacy, domestic violence rehabilitation, and now home care — and every step has been about helping people feel safe and supported in their homes.

I love my community. I grew up in this region. My parents raised us in Canberra, and we spent time on the family farm during school breaks. My parents live on a property just outside of ACT, where we try to visit often. I’ve always loved the mixture of Canberra and the nearby country areas. That grounding — that connection to people — is what drives me.

“Owning this home care business has given me the flexibility to be present with my kids and help others. It’s not just business — it feels like an extension of who I am.”
