Top 10 Questions to Ask Your Care Partner

| Care Management

Choosing a care partner for yourself or your loved one is just as important as choosing a life partner. It requires trust, compatibility and confidence, as this person will be involved in many personal aspects of daily life, potentially for many years to come.

Here are the top 10 questions to ask your Care Partner:

1.    How will you involve me and my family in care decisions?

It’s important to know who is involved in decisions regarding your care.

While you have the capacity to make decisions, your wishes should be clearly acknowledged, understood and respected.

At Right at Home, we work in partnership with you. We ask who you would like involved in your care planning a

nd will ensure your preferences guide every decision.

2.    Will I have consistency in who supports me?

Consistency is key to building trust and comfort. Having different carers each visit can feel disruptive and impersonal.

At Right at Home, we match our carers to clients based on individual needs, cultural backgrounds and personal preferences.

Your Care Partner will personally introduce you to your carer before their first visit, helping to ensure a smooth and comfortable start.

3.    What happens if my regular carer is unavailable?

Even with consistent care, there will be times when your regular carer is unavailable due to annual leave or illness.

At Right at Home, if your regular carer becomes unavailable for any reason, we will call you as soon possible and suggest an alternative carer that will meet your needs, goals and preferences.

However, the decision will always be 100% up to you to either accept or reject the suggested carer.

4.    How do you ensure your team is trained and supported?

The quality of care you receive depends on the people delivering it.

At Right at Home, we hire trained professional with accredited qualifications. We also provide internal and external training to support our care team.

Our services are overseen by experienced care management and clinical teams to ensure high standards are maintained.

5.    How is the quality of care monitored?

You can feel confident that your care is being delivered as expected.

At Right at Home, we do daily care notes, monthly check-ins and quarterly supervisory visits. We are also available 24/7 for any urgent needs.

6.    How flexible is my care if my needs change?

Your care should adapt as your circumstances change.

At Right at Home, we offer flexible services that can be adjusted, whether that means increasing support, changing services, or modifying your schedule as needed.

7.    What range of support can you provide over time?

Care needs can evolve from basic assistance to more complex support.

At Right at Home, we offer a full range of services, including domestic assistance, personal care, nursing care, dementia support, and palliative care, allowing you to stay with one trusted provider as your needs grow.

8.    How quickly can support be put in place or adjusted?

Timing is important, particularly following a health event or hospital discharge. At Right at Home, we aim to respond quickly and can often arrange support promptly to ensure there are no gaps in care.

9.    How are costs explained and managed?

Understanding your costs upfront helps you make informed decisions.

At Right at Home, we provide clear explanations of fees, inclusions, and any out-of-pocket costs, along with regular statements so you can track both your costs and services.

10.    How will my care be planned and reviewed over time?

Your needs and choices are going to change over time so it’s important from the beginning of care to understand whether it will be reviewed or updated.

At Right at Home, we understand that changes happen quickly. That’s why our Care Partners conduct monthly check-ins, quarterly visits and annual reviews to ensure your care continues to meet your needs.
