Meet Right at Home Caregiver of the Year Taylor Wintle. A huge congratulations to Taylor of Right at Home Greater Logan for her fantastic achievements this year. Read on to learn what motivates Taylor and why caregiving is so important to her.

What drew you to working as an in-home caregiver?

When I was a teenager, I worked at McDonald’s. I loved helping customers. I would always go above and beyond to ensure that every customer was happy. After working at Macca’s for four years I decided that I wanted a career change. I knew that I loved helping people, so I did some research on how to become an in-home caregiver. I completed a Certificate III in Individual Support and absolutely loved it. I knew straight away that this is what I wanted to do. I feel I have a natural desire to look after those most vulnerable.

What were the reasons you chose to work for Right at Home? 

“To improve the quality of life for those we serve” is Right at Home’s powerful mission statement that truly resonates with me. I first came across this statement while searching for an employment opportunity involving in-home caregiving. I applied for the role advertised immediately after reading the job description, as I felt that I would be a suitable applicant who brings kindness, consideration, and care to work. Right at Home gave me the opportunity to explore working in a field I love and one that is incredibly rewarding. 

What motivates you to work as a caregiver?

What motivates me is knowing that I’m making a positive impact on people’s lives. Working as a caregiver gives me a sense of purpose, personal fulfillment, and recognition that I haven’t received from any other job. I strongly resonate with the phrase “find a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” because that is exactly what it is like working for Right at Home.

What do you think makes a good caregiver?

Someone who is selfless, trustworthy, compassionate, and kind. I believe that these are the characteristics that a good caregiver should have, as you need to put yourself in the client’s shoes to really understand their needs. A good caregiver should be passionate and proud about the work they do and really care about others.  

How do you feel having won the 2023 Caregiver of the Year Award?

I feel so proud. I pour my heart into being a caregiver and so to receive this award just feels so special. When Samuel and Samantha called me to tell me I won, I couldn’t stop crying I was that happy. I could barely talk to them on the phone call. 

What opportunities has this award opened for you at Right at Home?

I have been considered for a position in the office, which would commence in the new year. Right at Home has given me a secure job that I look forward to everyday. 

What advice can you give to other people looking for a job and who perhaps haven’t considered a career in caregiving?

My advice is do it. Being a caregiver is such a special and rewarding job. It is an amazing feeling putting smiles on peoples faces and knowing that you’ve helped them. It is such a meaningful job full of many rewards.
