September is International Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and we at Right at Home, Australia's leading quality in-home care provider, are urging our ageing male population to get checked.

The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia is asking Australians to get involved in helping create awareness and raise the much-needed funds to assist in the fight against prostate cancer.

Events are happening right across the country including The Long Run. The Long Run aims to raise awareness and funds to help men survive prostate cancer. You can run, walk or wheel 72 kilometres in September and collect donations and rewards along the way. In Queensland, visit famous landmarks like the Storey Bridge, Victoria Bridge and Brisbane City Hall as they light up blue to help shine a light on the disease.

According to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, this cancer is the most commonly diagnosed in Australian men with 20,000 diagnoses and close to 3,300 deaths each year. Prostate cancer kills more men than breast cancer kills women.

So, for men over 50 – over 40 if they have a family history of prostate cancer – it’s important to talk to your doctor about getting checked.
