That’s a Wrap, STEPtember - Moving Together

| Chronic Disease

STEPtember is a fun and inclusive virtual event that challenges you to take 10,000 steps a day, your way, in support of people living with cerebral palsy.

We are delighted to share in Right at Home Brand Ambassador Lucas Protopappas' journey this past month. Lucas, a well known Multi-disability bowler, was born with cerebral palsy and is stepping out to raise money to support children and adults living with the condition. Lucas is hoping to raise $1,000 which will go towards providing vital equipment, therapy and services to children and adults as well as further research and innovative technology. Lucas has pledged to take 10,000 steps a day, which for someone who has cerebral palsy in his legs, is an amazing feat! If you would like to donate to Lucas' fundraising page click here.

Every 20 hours, an Australian child is diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood and is caused by damage to the developing brain either during pregnancy or shortly after birth. It directly affects a person's movement and posture for life. Complex and lifelong physical, medical, educational and social needs associated with cerebral palsy remain unmet. Furthermore, relative to the condition’s prevalence, cerebral palsy remains under-recognised.

A targeted Australian and New Zealand Cerebral Palsy Strategy has been developed to reflect a united voice informed by people with cerebral palsy, their families, professionals, and researchers across Australia and New Zealand.
