National Pain Week is an annual awareness campaign coordinated by Chronic Pain Australia to draw attention to the plight of people suffering from chronic pain with the strategic intent to ensure that all Australians living with it receive the ‘Triple AAA’ standards of care – Awareness, Accessibility and Affordability. 

National Pain Week takes place in the last week of July each year. This year we celebrate from 24 to 30 July with the theme ‘Let them know how strong you are’ aiming to break down the stigma of talking about and seeking care for people experiencing chronic pain.  

Sadly, Chronic Pain Australia report several harrowing statistics about the state of chronic pain sufferers in Australia.  

Did you know that in 2022:  

• 70% of people said their household went without food so they could afford medicines and healthcare to manage their chronic pain 

• 45% of people with chronic pain feel stigmatised by their general practitioner 

• 48% of people said they consume alcohol to help manage chronic pain
