National Carers Week 2022

| Carer Support

It’s National Carers Week and we at Right at Home Australia would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of caregivers nationally.

National Carers Week is about recognising and celebrating the outstanding contribution unpaid carers make to our communities. There are over 2.65 million unpaid carers in Australia providing care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, mental illness, alcohol or drug dependency, long term health condition or who is frail due to age.

Did you know:

  • Over 16% of the adult Australian population provides care to someone aged 50+.

  • Someone caring for a parent has been doing so for an average of 20 hours a week for four years.

  • One in three adult caregivers is also raising a child under the age of 18.

  • About 70% of adult caregivers must rely on help from family members, friends or neighbours.

  • Spouses spend more than 30 hours a week directly caring for their loved one and are less likely to get help.

  • Long-distance caregivers spend an average of nearly $400 per month on travel and out-of-pocket expenses as part of their caregiving duties.

  • There’s a 20-50% greater likelihood for depressive symptoms for adult caregivers.

  • Nearly 70% of adult caregivers take time off during the workday, while 17% take a formal leave of absence and 10% take early retirement.

Right at Home can assist family caregivers and relieve some of the caregiving burdens with respite care. Our trained, screened and ensured staff work under a care plan devised around our clients, by them and their family and a Right at Home Care Manager. Our client-centred care and support allows the family care giver some reprieve to recoup from burnout and spend some time getting a break from caregiving duties. We cater to government funded and private pay clients for both the elderly and for people living with a disability. We support plan and self managed participants under the NDIS scheme and some of our offices are registered NDIS providers and can provide support to Agency Managed Participants.
