Right at Home Thanks Aussie Blood Donors

| News

This week started off with Blood Donor Day on the 14th of June. Inaugurated in 2005, World Blood Donor Day serves as a special day to thank blood donors for their efforts every year.

In Australia, blood (as well as tissue, organs, breast milk, and other life-saving biological products) can be donated to the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood. This is an Australia-wide network of over 100 donor centres receiving 1.5 million donations and undertaking 103,000 deliveries each year.

If you are 18 to 75 years old, are healthy and weigh more than 50kgs, you may be eligible to give blood. To find out if you’re eligible, take the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Quiz. Through Lifeblood, you can donate blood, plasma or platelets or even breast milk, organs, tissue or microbiota.

And, did you know that if you’ve had the COVID-19 vaccine, you can give blood just seven days after the jab!

In good health.
