Right at Home Recognises Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month

| News

November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. One of the worst cancers faced by Australians, we at Right at Home would like to show our support.

Pancreatic Cancer Blog

The leading body in pancreatic cancer awareness is The Pancare FoundationPancareaims to increase survival and provide support to those affected by pancreatic cancer and other upper gastrointestinal cancers.

With one of the lowest survival rates of all major cancers, pancreatic cancer statistics have not changed significantly in over 40 years, but you can make a difference. Learn about the symptoms and causes of pancreatic cancer to reduce your risk.

What is Pancreatic Cancer?

The pancreas is a gland of the digestive system. It is joined to the small bowel by a duct. The pancreas has two major roles in the digestive system: Producing enzymes to help break down food and making hormones that enter the body and flow around the bloodstream. The most important of these is insulin, which helps to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is the most common cancer of the pancreas and starts in the cells lining this duct. It is the eighth most common cancer and has a very low survival rate as it is most often diagnosed at an advanced stage.

For anyone willing to share their experience, you can join the conversation this month by contributing to Pancare’s National Pancreatic Cancer Roadmap. To find out more, visit the Pancare Foundation homepage.
