ANZAC Day Ceremonies around Australia in 2021

| News

Right at Home honours our fallen. After last year’s pandemic precautions and shutdowns, ANZAC Day looked and felt very different in 2020. While the Australian Government has this year made the difficult decision to cancel the Australian-led Anzac Day services at Gallipoli in Turkey and near Villers-Bretonneux in France, smaller, mostly ticketed in-person ceremonies will be taking place around Australia.

In Canberra, crowd numbers have been limited to 4,200 people for the dawn service from 5:30am to 6am and 3,000 people for the national ceremony, which includes the veterans’ march from 10:30am to 12pm.

In Sydney, the dawn service will be held at the Martin Place Cenotaph at 4.30am, followed by the march at 9am at the intersection of Martin Place and Elizabeth Street. A limit of 10,000 march participants has been imposed who can register up until the 25th. Spectators are asked to wear masks, use hand sanitiser and socially distance.

In Melbourne, the dawn service will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance from 5:40am with those not in attendance able to live stream the service online. The ANZAC Day march has been limited to 8,000 participants.

In Brisbane, the dawn service will be held at Anzac Square from 4:28am with the march taking place along its traditional George Street route from 10am to 12pm.

In Adelaide, 2,500 people are permitted to attend the dawn service at the Adelaide National War Memorial from 5:30am to 7am. The Anzac Day march will take place from 9.30am, starting at the same location.

In Perth, the dawn service will be limited to 10,000 attendees at the State War Memorial in Kings Park starting at 6am. This will be followed by a gold coin donation Gunfire Breakfast at Government House Gardens from 7am to 9am, limited to 2,000 people. The march will begin on St Georges Terrace from 9am.

In Hobart, attendance to the dawn service at the Hobart Cenotaph and the march down Macquarie Street have not been capped but attendees must register online.

In Darwin, the dawn service at the Darwin Cenotaph and the march down Kentucky Street will also not be capped but attendees are required to register online.
