It's Daffodil Day today, Friday 25th August, a day on which the Cancer Council raises awareness and funds to help cure cancer.
With 1 in 2 Australians being diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, cancer is experienced by just about everyone in our community. Most of us know someone affected by cancer. Every day, around 350 Australians are diagnosed with cancer.
Cancer research is discovering new and better treatments, cancer prevention campaigns are impacting on the community to change behaviour and support for those affected by cancer is improving all the time.
How to get involved:
The Cancer Council has a great website for Daffodil Day which provides for various ways to get involved either by fundraising, donating, selling merchandise or volunteering. You can also leave a dedication to someone you know who has suffered cancer. Visit https://www.daffodilday.com.au/get-involved/ for more information. #DaffodilDay
How Right at Home in Australia can help your family if someone is diagnosed with cancer:
Right at Home Australia is part of the world-wide network of Right at Home in-home care services. Right at Home provides private pay, in-home supportive care for older Australians, disabled adults, and people suffering from long term illness to help them continue living independently or with the right care 24/7.
Home care can also be provided to adults recovering from accidents, illness or major surgery such as knee and hip replacements. This care is to help them transition from a hospital setting back to their homes.
The use of in-home care services can extend the period a person can remain in their own home to the end of life.
Caregiving for a loved one can take its toll on spouses and family members and it can change family dynamics. In our modern world family members are often spread all over the country and internationally. The result is that they may not be aware of the changes taking place with their loved ones, or even if they are aware, they are not in a position to provide the hands-on care that is so needed. Right at Home understand this perfectly and our services can provide far-flung family members with the peace of mind that someone is looking out for their loved ones.
Most often the decision to seek out a care provider is driven by an event such as a fall, sudden illness, an adverse diagnosis, or the simple realisation by the family that a loved one needs help.
People that need help can come from a broad range of circumstances:
