Schizophrenia Awareness Week will take place once again this month from the 23rd to the 29th of May. This year’s theme is ‘Discover Better Mental Health’.
Mental health information and referral resource Mi Networks describes Schizophrenia as an illness or medical condition that affects the normal functioning of the brain, interfering with a person’s ability to think, feel and act.
Sadly, the cause of Schizophrenia is not fully understood and there is no cure.
About one in a hundred people will develop schizophrenia at some time in their lives with most developing the illness in their late teens and early twenties. To read more about Schizophrenia, visit Mi Networks Schizophrenia Fact Sheet.
Mental illness can cause irreparable harm to individuals, their families, and their friends. That is why it is important that we as a community care for those most vulnerable.
If you or someone you know needs assistance, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us on 1300 363 802. We provide support for all manner of mental and physical illness and disability.
In good health.
