| Chronic Disease

Each year on May 30, the world comes together to celebrate a shared mission to raise awareness about MS.

Inaugurated by the MS International Federation (MSIF) and its members in 2009, World MS Day celebrates global solidarity and hope for the future. The World MS Day 2021 theme is once again focused on 'Connections', aiming to build community connection, self-connection and connections to quality care.

According to MS Australia, multiple sclerosis (MS) is a condition of the central nervous system, interfering with nerve impulses within the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. It is characterised by sclerosis a Greek word meaning scars. These scars occur within the central nervous system and depending on where they develop, manifest into various symptoms.

MS affects over 25,600 in Australia and more than two million diagnosed worldwide. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20-40, but it can affect younger and older people too. Roughly three times as many women have MS as men.

A big part of what we do at Right at Home Australia, is care for people living with debilitating illnesses like MS to remain safe and independent in their own homes. If you or someone you know needs our help, please don't hesitate to contact us on 1300 363 802.
