Right at Home, Australia’s premium home care and assistance provider reminds you it's Thyroid Awareness Month.

Run by the Australian Thyroid Foundation, currently celebrating its 25th year, Thyroid Awareness Month is a national campaign calling on all Australians to be more aware of their thyroid health.

The foundation reports that one million Australians have an undiagnosed thyroid disorder. Thyroid disorders can be caused by iodine deficiency, autoimmune disease, viral and bacterial inflammation causing thyroiditis (subacute thyroiditis), familial disorders, nodules that have formed on the Thyroid Gland, and benign and malignant tumours on the Thyroid Gland.

The risk of an underactive thyroid increases with age, which is why it is important to stay on top of your thyroid health later in life. As it relates to COVID-19, the foundation said that there is no evidence that patients with thyroid issues have more to worry about than the rest of the population.
